Tearing down the Fusion?
It seems to me that some peeps can go a month or more before tearing down the gun and only when they have an issue. For me I have been taking it apart about every 2wks to change o-rings, specifically side seal & seal housing o-rings. So I guess my ? is what type o-rings do you use and how long do they last?
I've used weatherhead they only seem to last about a week. I've been using FKM(Viton) Black 75 Durometre which I told were the Graco o-rings and they last about 2wks before failure, noticing circumferential splitting or they seem looser around the part(i.e. seal housing, side seal). I don't mind cleaning the gun I just feel like I'm doing unnecessary maintainance when I don't need to.
I do grease all orings and side ports prior to reassembly. I've had this gun for almost 2yrs. However my fusion was 'used' and some of the black finish has been removed where the side seal housings slide into when I bought it. Not sure if that makes a difference. I make sure that the surfaces are smooth and there is no debris present. I've been in the business 10+ yrs. so I'm not a newb at this.
Any info or help is appreciated.

RE: Tearing down the Fusion?
wow, two weeks is amazing even!!
not so much amazing, but a shame..
its more of a chicken and egg story..
if you spray all day , there will be material left inside your gun, especially an older gun.. if you do not use this gun for a day or so without cleaning and fire it back up, cristalized iso and debris will scratch your mixing chamber, leaving you with more iso built up in the future because its the scratches that leaks material, not so much the o-rings..
when we spray all day we change side seal rings at least once a day , this to be sure we have no exploding rings, we do spray a lot of aestetic work and the last thing we need is a blister..
every 4 weeks we check aal the mixing chambers and side seal pistons on scratches and if they have some, we grind them flush using a completely flat glass sheet and sand paper wet 2000 with petroleum.. you cannnot do this endlessly because the mixing chambers are coated, and once you grind that away , just toss them out.. we own 11 fusion ap guns and the oldest is 7 years , still in use...

RE: Tearing down the Fusion?
So the ones that say you shouldn't tear your gun down only if you have problems are either salesmen or BS'ing.
When I started using the fusion for the first month or so thats the impression I was under. I would flippin get pissed when an oring would explode on me calling my supplier like what gives. I don't have problems anymore. Just wondering if I was missing something.

RE: Tearing down the Fusion?
Talked to a contractor who sprays roofs and he tells me he only tears down the fusion every 5 months!?? Drills out the mix chamber every so often and hammers away.

RE: Tearing down the Fusion?
IMO I feel that tearing down the Fusion gun all depends on what products are being used and how much you have been using. A spray on bedliner business should only have to clean the tip with a drill bit, grease the head and make sure there are no pre-mature o-ring leaks daily. Weekly I recommend a full breakdown of the front housing, clean with soft brushes, soak any parts with material build up, grease and reassemble. This will give you the insurance that your gun is clean for the new work week. Full gun break down is suggested every 2-3 drum sets as a preventitive maintenance program. This is inspecting all o-rings and seals for damage, cleaning filters, air passages and re-greasing all o-rings.
I also recommend this same type of program for the P2. Many business owners volumes and products are differ. I feel it is better to start with too much maintenance than not enough. You can simply make a program that works for you and your business once you get into a consistant routine that keeps your equipment in great running condition.

RE: Tearing down the Fusion?
I will go 20 sets of roofing foam sometimes before I have to tear down my fusion AP.
I just finished spraying an 8 set Polyurea job and had to tear down each day. The next morning, no matter what I did, my A Side on the Spray Chamber was iso'd up.
I would pop up the chamber, drill out the A-Side, light sand the chamber and Side Seals and go back to work.
It only takes a few minutes and while I am at it, I change my side seal o-rings and don't have a problem for the rest of the day.
Seems like every type of material acts a little different on the fusion though.
