Spray gun recommendations
I've got a Glascraft spray rig with the Probler air purge gun. Actually I've got three Probler guns.

I've always found this gun to be problematic, needing to be cleaned several times during a day of spraying, having side seal leaks and so forth. I'm in the process of bidding a large job and just don't need to have down time working on my spray gun so I'm thinking of buying another gun.

I know Glascraft has the new Probler II gun but there are slso some excellent mechanical purge guns out there. I've been told that a mechanical purge gun produces better physical properties than an air purge gun.

I'd be interested in knowing what guns the members of this board have experience with and what might or might not be recommended as a replacement for my Probler.

RE: Spray gun recommendations
Hello Eric!

Actually, it's not that certain mechanical purge guns produce better physical properties, they just develop them quicker. Over a period of time, studies have shown that many of the air purge guns will achieve comparable properties. A thorough study was presented at one of the PDA Conferences a few years back on this specific topic.

As for a suggestion, I started using an air purge fusion gun a couple of years ago and I am very pleased with its performance on long days and with its ease of cleaning. I only find myself breaking the gun completely down about once every four weeks, give or take.

RE: Spray gun recommendations
We also have 3 problers and a PII. At first the P II was great--no break down time at all. But eventually, I had too clean frequently then I lost a 10ft whip due to cross-over because the side checkballs never closed off the incoming material to the opposite side. Glascraft said it was a fluke, which it might have been. I tried it again I couldn't get the gun to trigger effectively. The seals must be shot. So, two yrs later and I still prefer my olf probler guns. Never liked the GX7's. To me the ease of breaking apart the problers were far superior to ANY thing else. So you just keep the other guns ready to go if you need to change them over. GOTTA PII FOR SALE! CHEAP!plus parts

How much for the PII?

I figured out what was wrong with my Problers. I had some defective check ball carriers that caused my seals to not protrude far enough. Replaced the bad parts and things seem to be working OK. Of course the gun still takes a half hour or so to get ready to spray.

I have three used Probler guns that are for sale. We switched to the P2 last year. Got three P2's and like them so far.

Myself I like the Graco MP Fusion Gun. Very easy to work on and works all day long. I use a XR4747 Module and it puts out plenty of material.

RE: Spray gun recommendations
I ended up buying a Fusion and have been very happy with it. The gun requires very little maintenance and always works well. What more can I ask for?
